A wire harness, also known as a wiring loom, is a systematic bundling of wires used to organize electrical systems in various devices and machinery. Instead of having individual wires running separately, a wire harness brings them together with protective coverings like sleeves, tape, or conduit to prevent abrasion, moisture damage, and short circuits.

The Wire Harness Assembly Process

Design & Planning Every harness begins with a blueprint. Engineers design a schematic based on the electrical requirements and spatial constraints of the end-use product.

Wire Cutting & Labeling Wires are cut to specific lengths using automated or semi-automated machines. Each wire is labeled for easy identification during installation and maintenance.

Stripping & Termination The insulation at the ends of the wires is stripped off, and terminals or connectors are crimped or soldered onto the exposed ends.

Assembly on a Harness Board Technicians use a full-size layout board (harness board) to assemble the harness. This board has all the necessary clips and fixtures to hold wires in the correct positions.

Bundling & Protection Once assembled, the wires are bundled together using cable ties, sleeves, or tapes to protect the harness from environmental and mechanical stress.

Testing Each harness undergoes rigorous electrical testing to ensure continuity, insulation resistance, and correct connections.
